How to use this tool

  1. Pick a mode: Final grade, Test grade, or Weighted.
  2. For Final grade, enter your current grade, target grade, and the final's weight — see the score you need.
  3. For Test grade, enter correct answers and total questions — get the percentage and letter grade.
  4. For Weighted, add each category with its weight and your score.
  5. Results update instantly as you type.
  6. Adjust the numbers to explore different scenarios.

Why use our Grade Calculator?

Students constantly need to answer "what do I need on the final to get a B?", teachers grade stacks of tests, and both want the weighted math done instantly. This tool covers all three without ads getting in the way, works on your phone, and uses a standard grading scale (A ≥ 90, B ≥ 80, C ≥ 70, D ≥ 60). Everything runs in your browser — nothing is stored or uploaded.

How the final-grade formula works

To find the score needed on your final, the tool rearranges the weighted-average formula: needed = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight, where weight is the final's share of the grade. This tells you exactly what percentage you must earn on the final to reach your target overall grade.

  • Result over 100% → target not reachable with this final alone
  • Result at or below 0% → you have already met the target
  • Lower the target or check the final's weight if the number looks off

Weighted grades vs. simple averages

A simple average treats every assignment equally. A weighted grade reflects that a final exam worth 50% matters far more than a quiz worth 5%. Always use weights that match your syllabus so the number you see is the grade your instructor will actually record.

Frequently Asked Questions

What score do I need on my final?

Use the Final grade mode. Enter your current grade, the grade you want overall, and how much the final is worth (its weight, e.g. 30%). The tool solves for the score you need on the final. If it shows over 100%, the target is not reachable; if it shows 0 or below, you have already secured it.

How is a test grade calculated?

Test grade percentage = (correct answers ÷ total questions) × 100. For example, 18 out of 20 is 90%. The tool also maps the percentage to a letter grade using a standard scale.

How does a weighted grade work?

Each category (homework, midterm, final, etc.) has a weight and a score. The weighted grade is the sum of (weight × score) divided by the total weight. If your weights add up to 100%, the result is your course grade; if not, the tool still averages by the weights entered and warns you.

What grading scale does this use?

The default scale is A ≥ 90, B ≥ 80, C ≥ 70, D ≥ 60, F below 60. Many schools use A ≥ 93 instead — treat the letter as a guide and check your syllabus for the exact cut-offs.

Can teachers use this to grade tests?

Yes. The Test grade mode works like an EZ-grader: enter the number correct out of the total and get the percentage and letter instantly, for any number of questions.

Is my data saved?
