Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later date. Each day is exactly 86,400 seconds, so the number of whole days is the difference in milliseconds divided by 86,400,000. This calculator does that automatically and also converts the result into weeks, months, and years.
Should I include the end date when counting days?
It depends on what you're measuring. For "how many days until" a deadline, you usually exclude the end date (you count the days you have left). For "how many days did a project run" including both the first and last day, turn on the "Include end date" toggle — it adds one day to the result.
How many days until Christmas?
Click the "Today → Christmas" shortcut to find out instantly. The calculator sets the start date to today and the end date to 25 December and shows you the exact number of days remaining.
How many days until New Year?

How are months and years calculated?
Because months and years have different lengths, the calculator uses standard approximations: one year = 365.25 days (accounting for leap years), and one month = 30.4375 days. The total days figure is always exact — it is the months and years values that are approximate.
